When people think about making a more environmentally friendly choice, it's easy to assume that means buying something new.

A greener bottle. A different type of packaging. A product made from another material. Sometimes, though, the simplest answer is sitting in the cupboard already.

If you've got a perfectly good glasses cleaning spray bottle that still works, using it again may be a better option than replacing it simply because the fluid has run out.

Reuse comes before replace

Most glasses cleaning bottles are fairly simple things. There's a container, a spray head and, usually, a microfibre cloth somewhere nearby.

There comes a point with most glasses cleaning kits when the bottle is empty, the cloth is still perfectly good, and the spray head works just as well as the day you bought it. At that point, buying another complete kit can feel a bit unnecessary.

After all, you haven't run out of bottle. You haven't run out of cloth. You haven't run out of packaging. You've only run out of cleaning fluid.

So why buy all the other bits again?

It sounds almost too simple, but that's really the whole idea behind refilling....

The short answer is: no, you don't.

In most cases, if the spray bottle is still working properly, there's absolutely no reason why it can't be refilled and used again. The same goes for the microfibre cloth that probably came with it. Give the bottle a clean, wash the cloth when necessary, add fresh lens cleaning fluid and you're ready to go...
